EDWARD AKIRA NAKAMURA JR. ED, SHORT 72, of Kunia, died at home on October 26, 2017. He was born in Honolulu to Edward Akira and Alyce Hanayo Nakamura. Preceded in death by his wife, Diane, his parents and brother, Milton, he is survived by sisters, Bernice (Robert) Koike, Karen (Warren) Motosue and Ann (Wayne) Uradomo; brother, Harlan Nakamura, and by 8 nieces and nephews and 7 grandnieces and nephews. Hiroshi Chinen
89, of Kaneohe, saw the glory of God, as Heaven opened its gates and joyously received him on October 14, 2017. Born in Lahaina, Maui, he retired as the Shipyard Facilities and Equipment Administrator for Matson Navigation Company. He touched many lives as his lifetime ministry of serving our Lord was shared throughout the world. Hiroshi's presence will be greatly missed; however, we rejoice with him, as he is in the presence of our Loving Father. Preceded by his wife, Dorothy, he is survived by his children, Cynthia (John) Bortfeld, Sandra (Glenn) Shimabukuro, Calvin (Joy) Chinen, and Paul (Doreen) Chinen; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Fusako Chinen, Mitzi Yoshimoto, Stanley Seie (Miriam) Chinen and Nancy (Robert) Okuda. Helen Keiko Harada Ezaki
91, of Honolulu, a retired home economics teacher, passed away on Sept. 21, 2017 in Honolulu. She graduated from the University of Hawaii, and taught at Honokaa High, where she met her late husband, Minoru. After they married, she spent a year at Kohala High and a year at Columbia University. She then spent two years at Hilo Intermediate, two years at Dole Intermediate, and 30 years at McKinley High. She is survived by son, Bruce (Laura); daughter, Lori Chun; brother, William Harada, and by four grandchildren. Private services held.
Ruby Asako Hayashida
85, of Honolulu, a retired cosmetologist, passed away on October 3, 2017 in Honolulu. She was born in Waialua. She is survived by her husband, Harry, and by nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by daughter, Kathy. The family would like to extend appreciation to Dino and Essie Falarca (Essie had recently passed away), Daniel and Quennie Rose Felarca, Jonathan Felarca and Andrea Umipig for caring for Ruby so lovingly and compassionately. 79, of Kailua passed on October 3, 2017 in her Kailua home surrounded by family. She was born in Lima, Peru. She was a retired salesperson. She is survived by her husband, Yasutoshi Takushi; daughters, Kiyomi (Jr.) Lorica, Manami Takushi, Tomoko Takushi (Randy Little) and Lisa Takushi; and 5 grand- children, Koby, Noah, Logan, Joshua and Zoe. 98, of Honolulu, a retired civil engineer for the Federal Aviation Administration, passed away on October 5, 2017 at Kuakini Medical Center. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by son, Michael (Laurel); daughter, Lynne Otsuka; brother, Keith; sisters, Alice Inouye, Hazel Yasuda, Betty Higashino, Ethel Ishii and Beatrice Choy; and by five grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. Jane Eiko (Takasaki) Sato
95, died peacefully Sunday, September 24, 2017 in Honolulu. She was born in Honolulu, Hawai'i on October 19, 1921. She was the only child of Masakazu and Shizuyo (Kurata) Takasaki. Jane was a graduate of McKinley High School, Class of 1939, where she met her future husband, Barney Sato, Class of 1938. After high school she attended the Margaret Dietz Commercial School and finishing school in Japan. In 1946, she married Barney "Shige" Sato and subsequently helped in the family business, Sato Clothiers, Ltd. for many years. She supported Barney in his career, extra-curricular sports activities, and charitable pursuits. While raising three children, Barney and Jane enjoyed traveling the world, were active in the Ala Moana Lions, and pursued the perfect golf swing. A "tomboy in her early years, Jane was a modern individual who was eager to keep up with current ideas. She was also an excellent seamstress, dressed well, and loved to follow the new fashion trends. Her greatest pride was her children and grandchildren, her dear long- time friendships, and "that" once- in-a-lifetime hole-in-one at Mid- Pacific Golf Club. She continued to have fond memories of her childhood days with the friends of Pu'unui Street and Serreno Lane. She is survived by children: Daryl (Amy) Sato, Linda (Frederic) Sato-Juras, and Myron (Sharlyn) Sato; five grandchildren; Mele, Kimi, Mari, Keola and Kari; and one great-grandchild, Mia. Private family services were held at Punchbowl on October 23.

Ruby Y. Nakashima
Ruby Yaeko (Yokoyama) Nakashima passed away on Oct. 5, 2017. Born in Holualoa, Kona Hawaii into a family of two brothers and three sisters, she graduated from Konawaena High School and moved to Honolulu in 1948. In 1951 she married Kenneth Hiroshi Nakashima. A devoted wife and mother, Ruby is survived by husband Kenneth, son Leslie and his wife and daughter, Anne Gauldin and Lianna Nakashima, of Los Angeles, CA and daughter Karen Stern and her husband and son, Ralph and Matthew Stern of Ann Arbor, MI. She is also survived by her sister, Edna Otsuka of Kailua, Kona. Services will be private and the family requests no koden.
