94, of Honolulu, a World War II veteran of the Military Intelligence Service and retired Internal Revenue Service Agent passed away on October 7, 2017. He was born in Waipahu, the youngest of three children to Takeo and Ushi Higa. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Higa and is survived by sons, Nelson (Alison) and Alton (Kristine) and grandchildren, Brianne, Chase, Logan and Brennan Higa. He was active in many civic and cultural organizations including the Jikoen Hongwanji Mission, Kita Nakagusuku Sonjin Kai, Hawaii United Okinawa Association and Hui Makaala. Visitation 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary; services to begin at 11:00. Casual attire and no flowers, please.

88, having lived a long and wonderful life passed away peacefully on October 30, 2017 at Maunalani Nursing & Rehab Center. She was born on October 3, 1929 in Honolulu. Graduated from McKinley High School (Class of 1947) and Honolulu Business College. She is survived by her husband, Herbert; son, Bert (Cynthia); daughters, Valerie (Robert) Kidani, Cynthia (Bradley) Nelson; six grandchildren, two great-grand- children; sister, Dorothy Fujimoto and nephews and nieces. Visitation 5 pm on Friday (Dec 1) at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Services begins at 6 pm. Interment at Punchbowl Cemetery. Casual attire. No flowers.

72, passed away on October 17, 2017. Born in Puunene, Maui, he retired in 2013 after working 46 years at the Sears Service Center and a TV technician. One day at work, a good friend called out 'Moose' and Edwin turned around. That 'name' was his from that day on. He enjoyed golfing and playing softball with co-workers and friends. He loved to read about and watch all sports and was a faithful Giants fan. He also enjoyed traveling with his family every year and saw a Giants game in San Francisco in 2009. After retiring, he liked to pass his time solving the daily Sudoku puzzles and playing Candy Crush-both of which he became good at. Edwin was a man of few words, who loved his family and was very proud of his son. He is survived by wife, Susan and son, Keith. Brothers - Clifford (Nancy) and Stanley (Rita). Sisters - Jane (James Tanaka), Joan (Bert Murai), Norene Wang and Arlene (Nathan Akiyoshi). Sister-in-law - Anne (Glenn Teruya). 12 nieces and nephews and 15 grandnieces and grandnephews. Private services were held.

Patrick Yoshikatsu Kaya

Patrick Yoshikatsu Kaya, 92, of Wahiawa passed away on November 10, 2017. He was born in Spreckelsville, Maui. He was a Korean War Veteran with 27 years of service in the Army. Pat is survived by his wife, Patsy (Toba), a sister, Jane Kurisu, of Wailuku, Maui, and was predeceased by brothers Setsu and Masa and sister Sally (Kaya) Inouye. Pat is also survived by three children, Kevin, of Lakeland, FL, Craig, of Tacoma, WA and Sharon, of Gettysburg, PA, 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Private services held.

He is survived by his wife, Edean; sons, Shane and Shannon; daughter, Leisha (Mark) Cunningham; brother, Wayne (Claire); sisters, Bobbi Kanemoto and Kats (Stan) Doi; and by granddaughters, Emily and Ellie.
